The Israeli construction plan violates international law according to the UN

The UN criticizes the Israeli plan for new settlements on the West Bank. The Israeli project was illegal under international law and violent resettlement for war crime.

The UN High Commissioner Office on Friday stated that the Israeli plan to build thousands of new homes on the West Bank Jordan is illegal under international law. At the same time, it can lead to forced eviction of the Palestinian population, as the Office described as a war crime. TASR reports this based on Reuters report.

Israeli Finance Minister Becalel Smotrič pledged on Thursday that he will continue the long postponed project of the construction of settlements. He stressed that this step would “bury” efforts to recognize the Palestinian state. A spokesman for the UN Office said that the plan would divide the western shore of Jordan into two special isolated enclaves. “It is a war crime of the occupation power to resettle its own population to the occupied territory,” the spokesman said.

Approximately 700,000 Israeli settlers live among 2.7 million Palestinians on the West Bank of Jordan (Wnegino) and Eastern Jerusalem. Israel annexed Eastern Jerusalem in 1980, which most countries did not acknowledge, but officially did not spread its sovereignty to the Wneginan, DPA recalls. The expansion of settlements, according to most world powers, weakens a potentially two -state solution, as it distributes the territory that the Palestinians consider to be part of the future independent state. But Israel refers to historical and biblical ties to this area and claims that settlements provide strategic depth and safety and that the West Bank of Jordan is “disputed”, not “occupied”, writes DPA.
