The court in Colombia condemned a 15-year-old boy who shot Senator Miguel Uribe in June for seven years in a correctional facility. Uribe, who was also a presidential candidate, died two months after the assassination. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.
The prosecutor’s office said that the teenager “must remain in a specialized facility for seven years where freedom will be denied.” They accused the young man of attempting a murder and illegal possession of a weapon. According to the prosecutor’s spokesman, the boy will not be transferred to adult prison after 18 years.
Thirty -nine -year -old Uribe was critically injured on June 7 during the election meeting in the capital, suffered from gunshot head and leg injuries. After the attack, he immediately underwent surgery and remained hospitalized in an intensive care unit until his death on August 11, when he died of brain bleeding.
The assassination videos capture Uribe as speeches at the Bogota election meeting, where shots were heard. The bloody senator then collapsed to the ground in the midst of the screams of hundreds of its supporters, says AFP. The attacker shot Uribe three times, twice in the head.
