US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a technological agreement on Thursday, concluding a second state visit to the US leader in Britain, writes TASR, according to AFP, Reuters and BBC reports.
The aim of the agreement in question is to strengthen US and Britain relations in the field of artificial intelligence, quantum calculations and nuclear energy. The agreement follows the investment promises of £ 150 billion (approximately € 172 billion) to the United Kingdom from American giants such as Microsoft, Google and Blackstone.
The largest investment package
“It is by far the largest investment package of its kind in British history,” Starmer said. Trump, in turn, noted that this was a “very large” agreement and also stressed that the US had a “inseparable bond” with Britain, his key ally in NATO.
During the last joint press conference in Britain, both leaders also affected foreign policy. In the past, Starmer and other European leaders appealed to Trump to put more pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump criticized Putin, but he did not mention any further sanctions against Moscow. At the same time, he again expressed frustration that some European countries are still buying Russian oil, although Britain is not one of them.
Different attitudes to Palestine
The US President also reiterated his attitude that he disagrees with countries – including Britain – which they plan to recognize the Palestinian state. “I don’t match the prime minister on this issue. It is actually one of the few things we don’t match,” Trump said.
Some journalists’ issues concerned the American deceased financier and sex delinction Jeffrey Epstein, who was friends with Trump in the past.
Diplomatic scandal
Starmer asked journalists about his recent decision to dismiss Petr Mandelson as an ambassador to the US after his close ties came to know with the financier. Starmer reiterated that “last week came to the surface of information that was not available at the time of his appointment” and that he made his decision on this matter.
The US President ended his visit after a press conference and went back to Washington, Reuters writes.
