According to AFP reporters, French Armed Forces were found on Wednesday on the deck of a tanker allegedly belonging to Russia’s “shadow fleet”. The tanker is parked off France and is suspected of participating in drones over Denmark last month.
A source of the French government, which spoke on the condition of anonymity, told AFP that the French Navy boarded Boracay. The ship has a Benin flag and is included in the black list of the European Union. It is a tanker that belongs to the fleet of Russia’s old oil tankers who violate sanctions.
France is investigating the tanker, which is anchored off Saint-Nazaire in western France for “serious offenses”, President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday, but without confirming reports of a connection to mysterious Denos flights.
“This crew has committed some very serious offenses that justify the current judicial proceedings.”Macron told reporters at the summit of EU leaders in Copenhagen.
Made in 2007 and known by various names, such as Pushpa and Kiwala, Boracay has been anchored in Saint-Nazaire in western France for several days.
According to the specialized website The Maritime Executive, the boat is suspected of participating in mysterious drones with drones that stopped air traffic in Denmark in September.
The publication stated that the tanker and other ships could have been used either as launch platforms or as bait.
However, when asked about these allegations, Macron replied that he would “remain very careful”, as it is not his own responsibility to find the relationship between boocay and drone flights.
