Historic moment for the Slovak Armed Forces: Pavol Šajgalík received episcopal consecration!

The new Ordinary of the Ordinariate of the Armed Forces (OS) and the Armed Forces (OZ) of the Slovak Republic, Pavol Šajgalík, received episcopal ordination on Saturday in Bratislava. His predecessor František Rábek was the main consecrator. Co-consecrators of the second bishop of the Ordinariate were Archbishop of Košice and Chairman of the Conference of Bishops of Slovakia Bernard Bober and Archbishop of Bratislava Stanislav Zvolenský. He was appointed to the position at the end of May of this year by the Holy Father Leo XIV.

Šajgalik was ordained a priest on August 15, 1993. From that year until 2005, he held several offices in the Slovak Province of the Capuchin Friars Minor. In 2004, he joined the Ordinariate of the OS and OZ SR, where he worked as a police chaplain in Bratislava. From 2006 to 2019, he was a member of the priest’s council. He also obtained a doctorate in pastoral theology from the University of Vienna. He also worked as a hospital chaplain at the St. Michal in Bratislava.

In the Ordinariate of the OS and OZ SR, he also worked as a deputy vicar, police dean in Bratislava and a member of the preparatory commission of the synod of the Ordinariate. Since 2019, he has been the spiritual administrator of the Slovak Catholic Mission in Switzerland, residing in Zurich.
