A woman died this Friday (October 31, 2025) after being shot during a shootout on Linha Amarela, one of the main expressways in Rio de Janeiro. The victim, identified as Bárbara Elisa Yabeta Borges, was in an app car and was hit in the head while traveling.

Bárbara was taken to Bonsucesso General Hospital, but she did not survive her injuries. According to the Military Police, the shooting occurred at around 2:30 pm, near Rua Praia de Inhaúma, close to Morro do Timbau, a region neighboring the place where the woman was shot. The information is from .

According to the app driver, they were leaving Governador Island headed for Cachambi. He reported to the police that, when entering the Yellow Line, close to the Fundão footbridge, he heard several shots and realized that the passenger had been hit.

Lamsa, the concessionaire responsible for the road, reported that the section was temporarily closed, but traffic was reopened a few minutes later. Images recorded by drivers and residents show cars stopped and 3 people lying on the ground. An armored police vehicle also appears in the videos.

In a statement, the State Secretariat of Military Police stated that police officers from the 22nd BPM (Maré) were called after reports of gunshots near Complexo da Maré, in the north of the city.

The unit’s command also reported that there was a confrontation between criminals from rival factions in the Praia de Inhaúma region, in Vila do Pinheiro. A team sent to the scene found two injured people inside a car and seized a rifle.
