On the 9th of November, the village of Cortelha, located in the parish of Salir, within the municipality of Loulé, will host the traditional São Martinho Walking Tour, an initiative promoted by the Associação dos Amigos da Cortelha, which this year celebrates 50 years of activity.
According to the organization, “the stunning landscapes of Serra do Caldeirão, contact with nature in the Algarve interior and roasted chestnuts are the necessary ingredients to enjoy an excellent São Martinho Walking Tour.”
The event aims to “show, energize and publicize the traditions and nature of Serra do Caldeirão”, inviting the public to participate “in a different day, full of conviviality, but also a lot of discovery along trails and paths that will surprise pedestrians.”
The route of around 10 kilometers follows paths that reflect the reddish tone characteristic of autumn in the mountains, in a setting that heralds the season for arbutus harvesting.
The gathering of participants is scheduled for 8:30 am in Cortelha, with departure at 9:00 am.
At the end of the tour, the organization promises a “real and genuine Roasted Chestnut Magusto and a Serrano Snack”, with chestnuts, sweet potatoes, chorizo, cheese, homemade bread and arbutus brandy.
Registration costs 10 euros for members and 12 euros for non-members, and must be done via the website. Payment will be made at the tour secretariat, on the same day.
The initiative has the support of the Loulé City Council and the Salir Parish Council.
