A 20-year-old young man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly shooting his 21-year-old girlfriend in the face. The event, which occurred in the early hours of Friday to Saturday in (Madrid), is being investigated as an alleged crime of sexist violence, although the detainee claims that they both found the weapon and an accidental shot occurred when they were handling it.

Around 6:55 in the morning on Saturday, the young woman was found on Avenida de la Lengua Española, in a popular leisure area of ​​Leganés, next to the La Cover space, where a Halloween party was being held. The SUMMA and the National Police attended. The girl was lying on the ground and seriously injured with a gunshot wound that entered the left cheekbone and exited through the right ear area. She was intubated and transferred in serious condition to the 12 de Octubre hospital in Madrid.

Already on Saturday afternoon, the police arrested the young man, the boyfriend of the injured girl, as the alleged perpetrator of crimes of gender violence, injuries and illicit possession of weapons. The agents believe that he was the author of the shot.

The detainee, for his part, has told the agents that the couple was returning to the boy’s home at dawn when they found a box containing a gun on the road, that they took it home and that when handling it it went off “accidentally”, wounding the girl in the cheekbone.

Then, they both went down to the street, left the gun in some bushes and called Emergencies. However, police sources assure that when they and the paramedics arrived, the injured young woman was alone and lying on the ground. The police have not yet been able to obtain the injured girl’s testimony.

The National Police has recovered the weapon, which was hidden in some bushes in the area, and the investigation continues to clarify what happened.
