West Ham reacted after conceding an early goal and beat Newcastle 3-1 this Sunday (2), achieving their first home victory in the Premier League since the victory over Leicester City in February.
West Ham started well, and Jarrod Bowen hit the post after four minutes, but Newcastle regained possession and winger Jacob Murphy opened the scoring.
He equalized for the hosts with a 35th-minute shot, and saw his team go into half-time with an advantage after Newcastle defender Sven Botman scored an own goal in first-half stoppage time.
Newcastle offered little in attack, and Tomas Soucek pushed the ball into the goal in stoppage time of the second half, sealing the team’s first victory under the Portuguese coach and leaving the team in 18th place, with seven points — five less than Newcastle, who are in 13th.
