In the times of the Polish People’s Republic, compote was a mandatory addition to dinner. In every home it was cooked on a regular basis and stored in jars. It could be prepared from almost any fruit, but it was the one cooked from apples that was remembered by many people. Natural and full of flavor, it perfectly quenches thirst and complements many dishes.

Apple compote is good for any season. In summer, served with ice cubes, it is a perfect refreshment in the autumn and winter period, enriched with spices, warms, and also takes care of the body’s immunity. If you have excess apples, prepare it according to this recipe. I warn you that it quickly disappears from the jug.

Ingredients needed to cook apple compote:

  • 0.5 kg of apples
  • 125 g of sugar (you can also use honey)
  • 250 ml of water (can be more if you want the compote to be “lighter”)
  • Cinnamon stick
  • A few cloves
  • Juice of ½ lemon

Preparation method:

wash and peel. Remove the seeds and cut into quarters. Put it in a pot and pour water over it. Add sugar and cook over low heat. When the sugar dissolves, add cinnamon, cloves and lemon juice.

Cook the compote until ready until the apples are soft. Try it and, if necessary, dilute it with water or add some sweetener for taste. Strain everything through a strainer and pour into glasses. Serve as desired – warm or cold. Enjoy your meal!
