Ukrainian drones hit a key oil hub in Russia’s Samara region

Governor Viačeslav Fedoriščev also confirmed the intervention of the industrial facility in the Samara region.

On the night of Tuesday, Ukrainian drones hit the Samara oil distribution station in the Samara region in the southeast of the European part of Russia, which is a key object of the Russian oil transportation infrastructure. Referring to a source in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the British station BBC and Ukrainian media reported about it, writes TASR.

The operation was carried out by a special unit of SBU Alfa, while its target was an infrastructural facility in the village of Prosvet in the Samara region. According to the source, Ukrainian drones caused an “extensive fire” in the distribution station and damaged five oil tanks – each of them had a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters.

At this station, oil from different fields is blended to create the Urals export blend, making this facility an important part of Russia’s oil logistics system.

“Damage to such key facilities directly reduces Russia’s ability to complete export deliveries of oil and fulfill its contractual obligations,” the source said.

Referring to posts on social networks and the Exilenova+ platform, the Moscow Times wrote in a message on the Telegram network that oil from this hub is also being pumped to the port of Novorossiysk. The object in question belongs to the company Transneft – Družba, which is part of the state enterprise Transneft and manages the Družba pipeline.

The reaction of the governor

The regional governor Viačeslav Fedoriščev also confirmed the attack on an industrial facility in the Samara region, but did not specify which facility it was and the extent of the damage. He said no one was injured in the attack.

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its air defenses shot down 97 Ukrainian drones over several regions of Russia and the Black Sea on Tuesday night.

The Ukrainian armed forces previously said that on April 18 they hit four important Russian oil industry facilities, including two refineries in the Samara region.

Recently, Kiev has intensified attacks on Russian oil and logistics infrastructure with the aim of weakening Moscow’s military capabilities.
