Tornado in Paraná left 6 dead and more than 800 injured

The city of Rio Bonito do Iguaçu was the hardest hit, with 12,836 people affected, 2,000 displaced and 28 homeless

The passage of a tornado with winds of up to 250 km/h that hit the central-southern region of Paraná on the afternoon of Friday (7.Nov.2025) and in the early hours of Saturday (8.Nov) left 6 dead and 835 injured, according to Civil Defense. Read the (PDF – 550 kB).

The city of Rio Bonito do Iguaçu was the hardest hit: 12,836 people were affected, 2,000 were displaced and 28 were homeless. According to the state government, 90% of the city’s buildings were damaged.

They were the death of 6 people by the government of Paraná:

  • José Neri Geremias53 years old, from Guarapuava;
  • Jurandir Nogueira Ferreira49 years old, from Rio Bonito do Iguaçu;
  • Claudino Paulino Risse57 years old, from Rio Bonito do Iguaçu;
  • Adriane Maria de Moura47 years old, from Rio Bonito do Iguaçu;
  • Jose Gieteski83 years old, from Rio Bonito do Iguaçu;
  • Julia Kwapis14 years old, from Rio Bonito do Iguaçu.

Other municipalities also face consequences from the storms. According to the Civil Defense of Paraná, 16 cities recorded incidents, and 4 declared a state of emergency. There are 28 homeless people and 75 homeless people across the state.

In Guarapuava, gusts of wind caused the death of one person and affected 88 others, leaving 60 homeless and 22 homes damaged or destroyed. There were also records of damage in Jaboti, Londrina, Matinhos, Mauá da Serra, Porto Barreiro and Uruarama. In Porto Barreiro, one of the hardest hit municipalities, 2,400 people were affected and 620 houses were damaged.

Hailstorms hit 80 people in Cruzeiro do Iguaçu, damaging 30 houses. In Guaraniaçu, 14 people were affected, 11 were displaced and 12 homes were damaged.

OTHER AFFECTED STATES

In Rio Grande do Sul, the storms were concentrated on the North Coast, causing roofing, falling trees and poles, power outages and flooding. In Arroio do Sal, there was partial roofing of houses, collapse of structures and flooding in several neighborhoods. In Xangri-lá, 5 power poles were knocked down by the winds and one person was injured after being hit by fallen wires.

Capão da Canoa also recorded roof damage and fires in a furniture store and in a residence, possibly caused by a short circuit in a transformer.

Other municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul — Osório, Torres, Imbé, Palmares do Sul and Itati — also reported losses. In Itati, the volume of rain raised river levels and damaged bridges, crops and public roads. In Charqueadas and Viamão, gusts of wind caused roofing, fallen trees and damage to the electricity grid.

In Santa Catarina, the impacts were punctual. In Joinville, the Itaum, Floresta, Petrópolis and Boa Vista neighborhoods recorded tree falls and power outages, but there were no injuries or the need to declare an emergency. According to Santa Catarina Civil Defense, teams continue to monitor weather conditions and send alerts to municipalities.
