Fans of the series ‘Airport – Area Restricted’, available on HBO, can start saying goodbye to the series that follows operations to combat crimes committed through Brazilian airports. This is because, after 7 seasons, the PF banned the continuation of recordings.

“The permanent presence of filming teams in restricted operational areas is incompatible with the principles of preserving privacy, image and the presumption of innocence of the citizens approached”, says a note, issued on Saturday (31)

“Security Restricted Areas are classified as priority risk zones, subject to strict access controls, limited exclusively to people with operational or functional needs, entertainment activities or audiovisual production not falling within this criterion”, explains the PF about its decision.

They add that current regulations, in particular the National Civil Aviation Security Program (PNAVSEC), “expressly prohibits the recording of images of sensitive procedures, flows and infrastructure related to civil aviation security”.

A decision would have generated friction between the PF and the Federal Revenue. “The powers of the Federal Revenue of Brazil, as a customs authority, are fully recognized and respected”, however, they add that the body’s duties are not “to be confused with the constitutional responsibility of the Federal Police for supervising airport security, which prevails in Restricted Security Areas, including in bonded areas, as provided for in the legal system”.

‘Airport – Restricted Area’

Initially shown on Discovery Brasil, ‘Airport – Area Restricted’ became part of the HBO catalogue. The series was recording its eighth season when the Federal Police banned it. The series follows customs operations, focusing on baggage inspection and interviews with agents.
