Thailand is betting on the recovery of the leopard shark, a species at risk

Leopard sharks are in danger of extinction, but in Thailand there are projects to recover the species that so far seem to be working.

He was born and raised in a controlled environment, but now it’s time for him to be released into the ocean. Previously, the leopard shark underwent several medical examinations to cause less stress to the animal.

Everything seems to be fine and he is ready to leave this controlled space where he has lived for the last year and a half, next to Maiton Island, in Thailand. Researchers consider the project a success. The challenge will mainly involve being able to feed themselves in the wild and learning to defend themselves.

Leopard sharks were abundant in Thailand, but over the past few years they have suffered a sharp drop in population due to overfishing and the degradation of corals and mangroves. They are currently a species at risk.
