“Tariffs have already dropped significantly. But the idea is to bring them to zero. There is no reason to have tariffs”, said the vice-president
The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, said, this Tuesday, 3, that the expectation for the meeting between the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), and Donald Trump is positive. He also stated that the objective is to bring prices to zero, even if they have already decreased compared to what they once were.
“The expectation is positive and more focused on the Brazil-United States relationship. It has already improved. We had 37% of Brazilian exports to the United States compounded with 10%, plus 40%. Tariff of 50%. It was reduced to 36%, to 34%, to 33%. Today it is at 22%. The tariff has already dropped significantly. But the idea is to bring it to zero. There is no reason to have a tariff”, stated Alckmin.
He also said that the idea in this new meeting between the presidents is to focus on some agricultural products and much more on industry, which still has a 50% tariff.
“We’ve already made a lot of progress. We’ve already had the entire area of meat, airplanes, orange juice, fruit, coffee. A lot of things have already been released. The idea is to focus a lot now on some agricultural products and a lot on industry, which still has a 50% tariff”, added the vice-president.
