The decision of the prosecutor’s office to refuse to prosecute the donation of fighter jets and other military equipment to Ukraine as if to indicate to the citizens and to every future government, that robbing the state of its property is fine and, as it were, in accordance with good morals. In response to information from Bratislava regional prosecutor Rastislav Remeta about the suspension of the prosecution, he stated this in a video on the social network State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) of the SR Igor Melicher.
“Mr. Prosecutor ignored the qualified complaint and arguments of the ministry, on the contrary, it was enough for him to identify with the statements of former minister Jaroslav Naď,” pointed out Melicher. He respects the decision of the prosecutor’s office, but does not agree with it. “It is based on invalid and often nonsensical conclusions,” he declared. In doing so, he pointed to the argument that no damage was caused by donating the technology to the Slovak Republic. “The fighters and the anti-aircraft system were worth half a billion euros at the time. Although it was older technology, it was still functional,” opposes the Secretary of State.
He also considers it a mistake that the prosecutor’s office did not take into account the legal obstacles to the donation, which was approached by the government in resignation, and that it considers the confirmation of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MFA) of the Slovak Republic to be a relevant consent opinion on the legitimacy of the donation. “Of course, the ministry confirmed it, because they were part of the same government coalition, so they were rather accomplices, not an unbiased subject,” pointed out Melicher. According to him, the prosecutor completely neglected the position of the Faculty of Law of the Comenius University or the Supreme Audit Office on this matter. At the same time, he perceives Remet’s attitude as an effort to please the opposition MPs and gain points in the event of running for office. for the post of general prosecutor.
The law enforcement authorities (OČTK) closed three out of four criminal prosecutions in connection with aid to Ukraine during the last election period. By stopping the criminal prosecution or rejecting the criminal report, they closed the OCTK the cases of the donation of MiG-29 fighters, the S-300 anti-aircraft system, and the case of the termination of the contract with a Russian company providing fighter service. The police continue to investigate the handover of technical documentation to the military attaché of Ukraine. Bratislava regional prosecutor Rastislav Remeta informed about this at Thursday’s press conference.
