In 2017, a 98-year-old woman voluntarily moved into a nursing home in Liverpoolin the United Kingdom, to… continue to care for her 80-year-old son, who had moved to the institution the previous year.
There’s Keating and their son, Tom (who never married), always lived together. Tom entered Moss View Care Home, a local nursing home, in 2016 after needing more support and monitoring. A year later, the mother decided to join him: she wanted to remain close to her son and ensure that he did not feel abandoned.
Speaking to , Ada, who was a nurse, described her daily routine: she goes to her son’s room to wish him good night and returns in the morning to greet him.
“When I come back, he comes to me with open arms and gives me a big hug. We never stop being mothers“, he told the newspaper.
Tom, who worked as a painter and decorator before retiring, said: “I’m happy to see my mum more often now that she lives here.”
The director of the home, Philip Daniels, highlighted at the time that their relationship is “inseparable” and that it is unusual to find a mother and child living in the same home.
The days were spent playing games and watching soap operas. According to the website, Tom would die on December 16, 2019, aged 82. His mother passed away three months later, in February 2020, aged 101.
