Toffoli’s departure from the Master case does not end the crisis for the STF – 02/13/2026 – Panel

The minister of the Federal Supreme Court has reached the end of the line in the case of Banco Master.
Criticized even by colleagues who protected him, he had been dragging the court into one of the biggest recent crises in the Judiciary.

At a meeting of all Supreme Court ministers on Thursday night,

The pressure on Toffoli, which was already great, reached its maximum level with the revelation that a Federal Police report detailed his relationships with Daniel Vorcaro, who owned Banco Master, and Fabiano Zettel, who is his brother-in-law.

This information was leaked from data from the banker’s cell phone, which was seized in the investigation. Messages show Vorcaro and Zettel discussing payments to Toffoli and meetings with him.

This is because the minister was a partner, along with his brothers, in a company that was one of the owners of the Tayayá resort, in Paraná. And this company sold its stake to a fund linked to Master.

This raised a series of questions. First, why didn’t the minister reveal this situation from the beginning, and only admitted his participation now, when the information came to light?

Second, how can he imagine that this would not be a conflict of interest?
The revelations were called political dynamite, and fear is what lies ahead, as the contents of Vorcaro’s cell phone are only now becoming known.

There was also concern in the Lula government and in Congress, since Daniel Vorcaro’s web of relationships was very extensive and encompassed several parties, both linked to the government and the opposition.

The minister at first resisted leaving the report, and his first reaction was to say that the Federal Police did not have the legal legitimacy to ask for his removal.

A traumatic measure was even considered, which would be his removal by order of the president of the , minister Edson Fachin.

An intermediate hypothesis would be to determine that the case would leave the Supreme Court and go to the first instance, but this ended up being discarded.

And what happens now? At first, the boil will subside. But the fact is that the Master’s crisis hit the Supreme Court in an unprecedented way, at a time when the court is under pressure on several fronts and in an election year.

The moment is delicate, and it is hoped that this episode will at least create rules to avoid future conflicts of interest.
