There are cases of schools with serious problems due to storms that worsened old problems. At Mooca high school, part of the roof fell into a room. Students and guardians require urgent work.
The damage in room six, not upper floor, are the most serious consequence of the passage of storm Kristin from Moita Secondary Schoolat the end of January. Those who study there say that there are still other problems that affect the entire school community.
“The school is very dilapidated. Every day is a surprise, pieces of ceiling on the floor, sometimes electrical installations”, says student José Canhenha.
Accompanying the students are guardians who denounce the lack of conditions in the secondary school, giving as an example “windows that don’t close” and the floor of the pavilion that “is all lifting up”.
At SIC, the school management recognized that problems, such as infiltration, are longstanding and were signaled to the Moita Municipal Council, which has passed responsibility to the central governmentaccording to CDU councilor, João Figueiredo.
This Friday, Dozens of students protested at the educational establishment to demand works because they considered them to be at risk.
“Every time we are in a classroom we are afraid that a fragment will fall. The teachers’ discomfort is visible”, says José.
“I don’t think he [aluno] be safe. Just yesterday he told me that more sheets had fallen from the ceiling. A sign has already fallen on an employee’s head”, adds Hélia Rodrigues.
The management of Moita Secondary School guarantees that all safety conditions are met. This week, members of the municipality, Civil Protection and the municipality’s works department visited the space to survey the damage.
Maintenance will progress when weather conditions permit.
