Maranhão’s Rayssa Leal started her journey well in search of her fifth Street League Skateboarding (SLS) championship, the sport’s main circuit. In the early hours of this Sunday (15), the Brazilian won the first stage of the seasonheld in Sydney, Australia.

In SLS, each skater has two laps, lasting 45 seconds, to be evaluated according to the movements performed – the lowest score is discarded. Afterwards, the athletes perform five individual maneuvers. The three best-rated attempts by the judges are considered for the final score.
Rayssa Didn’t perform as well on the lapswith a 5.8 as the best grade. At that moment, she was off the podium. THE story was different in individual maneuvers. The Brazilian achieved an 8.2 and an 8.4 in sequence that took her to the lead, forcing her rivals to take more risks and, consequently, make more mistakes.
In the fourth attempt, the Maranhão native still achieved a 7.7, totaling 30.1 points, ensuring good advantage for the Japanese Liz Akama, who came second, with 29.2. The podium was completed by Australian Chloe Covell, who accumulated 24.7 points. She led the competition in laps, but managed only two of five individual maneuvers.
In men, the from São Paulo Giovanni Vianna also went to the podium. He stayed in third positionwith 34.7 points. The victory went to the Japanese Ginwoo Onodera, with 37.3 points. His performance was almost perfect, with him achieving scores above 9.0 in both laps and maneuvers. The American Julian Agliardi, with 35.5, took silver.
