The expensive end of a long-standing dispute: STVR must pay more than 5 million euros! Flašíková reacted to the plain

  • STVR ended a long-standing legal dispute with the company CAUSAL over the Weather show.
  • STVR will pay interest on the delay in the amount of 5.53 million euros.
  • The financial reserve will cover the obligations without a negative impact on the operation in 2026.

Slovak Television and Radio (STVR) has ended a long-standing legal dispute with the company CAUSAL, s.r.o., which was related to the Weather Forecast program. On the basis of valid court decisions, STVR will pay the interest for the delay in the total amount 5,533,529.50 euros. STVR has created a financial reserve for the payment of these obligations, and therefore the payment will not have a negative impact on the operation of the institution in 2026. TASR was informed about this by the head of the communication department of STVR, Zuzana Vicelová.

“Based on the resolution of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic dated March 31, 2022, the principal awarded by the court in the amount of 2,435,602.10 euros was paid in June 2022. The proceedings subsequently continued in the part related to the claim’s accessories and compensation for the costs of the proceedings“, Vicelova explained.

The Bratislava IV District Court, in a judgment dated May 18, 2023, awarded the plaintiff interest on delay for the period 2002 to 2022 and proportionate compensation for the costs of the proceedings. The judgment was subsequently confirmed by the decision of the Regional Court in Bratislava dated December 17, 2025, while the written version was delivered to the STVR on February 15, 2026.

“The legal termination of this dispute represents one of the next steps by which STVR systematically deals with past obligations. Our priority is to cleanse the institution of historical debts and create a stable environment so that we can fully devote ourselves to the development, modernization and building of public media“, said STVR general director Martina Flašíková.

The subject of the dispute was a claim for compensation for damages incurred after Slovenská televížia stopped broadcasting the show in 1999, which the company OMEGA PLUS, spol. s.r.o The consideration for the production and delivery of the show was the broadcast of the show along with sponsorship links secured by the plaintiff.
