Have you already ‘dropped’ more money this month? These workers begin to receive retroactive salary increases

Do the casualties and parental licenses impact holidays or holiday and Christmas subsidies? We explain

Public Administration workers will begin this Friday to receive salaries already updated by the new valorization agreement, with retroactive effects to January. For many, this means that the amount processed this month includes not only the regular increase, but also the differences relative to the first months of the year.

According to Notícias ao Minuto, the remuneration base for Public Administration is now set at 934.99 euros, representing an increase of 6.44% compared to the 878.41 euros practiced in 2025. This value corresponds, in practice, to the minimum wage for public service.

Who is covered and how much goes up

According to the same publication, workers with gross monthly salaries of up to R$2,734.36 benefit from a fixed increase of R$56.58. Remunerations above this level are updated by 2.15%.

The agreement was signed on January 21st between the Government and two public service unions, Fesap and STE. The Common Front, linked to the CGTP, was left out of the signing, arguing that it does not accept agreements that, in its understanding, do not respond to workers’ demands and challenging the Executive to reopen the negotiation process.

Meal allowance is also updated

In addition to the base salary, there are changes to meal vouchers. In accordance with what was established in the new multi-year agreement, the value increases to R$6.15 per day.

As explained by , an annual update of 15 cents is also planned until 2029, within the scope of the 2026-2029 Multi-Year Agreement for the Valuation of Public Administration Workers.

This understanding extends commitments previously made and also includes reviews in some specific careers.

Payment schedule already defined

The salary processing dates for 2026 are in a notice from the IGCP, Treasury and Public Debt Management Agency, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on January 16.

According to this notice, the first salaries to be paid are those of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and several ministries, including Foreign Affairs, Finance, State Reform, National Defense, Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, Culture, Youth and Sports and Parliamentary Affairs, as well as general State charges.

Other payments are made by the 23rd of each month. The publication also clarifies that, whenever the date coincides with a holiday or weekend, payment is advanced to the immediately preceding business day.

The impact of retroactives

One of the most relevant components of this processing is the inclusion of retroactives to January. This means that the amount credited this month may be higher than usual, reflecting the difference between the old and new salary since the beginning of the year.

According to information released by the same source, this update marks the effective start of the salary appreciation calendar scheduled until 2029.

For thousands of public employees, the reinforcement is starting to materialize now. The expectation is that, over the next few years, the multi-year agreement will continue to have effects on the remuneration structure of the Public Administration.
