Historical figure of the pre-Bolsonaro PL, federal deputy Antônio Carlos Rodrigues (SP) He will join Podemos to run for a new term in the Chamber.
“I’m in the same place, it was the PL that changed. I leave through the front door”, says Rodrigues. The deputy has always been close to Lula and the PT, which gradually undermined his space in the PL, especially after the party sheltered former president Jair Bolsonaro and allies at the beginning of this decade.
The parliamentarian became Minister of Transport in the Dilma Rousseff government and was a substitute senator for Marta Suplicy (PT).
Rodrigues has been a member for 27 years, but says that his connection with the PL dates back to the 1980s, when the party was created by former deputy Álvaro Valle (1934-2000).
The last straw for his relationship with the party to collapse came last year, when he defended minister Alexandre de Moraes, from the STF, a mortal enemy of Bolsonarism.
who then retreated. Even so, the wear and tear was inevitable and he went to the Electoral Court asking for approval to leave the party, a claim that has not yet been decided. If he doesn’t get authorization, he will take advantage of the party window that opens at the beginning of March.
The option for Podemos, says Rodrigues, occurred because it is a centrist party. He says he negotiated that he will continue to vote in favor of government projects in which he believes. “I will have the freedom to approve good decisions,” he says.
