The Instituto Brasil Logística (IBL), an entity that brings together associations linked to infrastructure, released a statement this Saturday (21) in which it repudiates protests that took place in recent days at Cargill’s headquarters in São Paulo and

The acts are led by representatives of indigenous peoples and social movements, who criticize federal government plans to increase the flow of products through Amazon waterways.

“Vandalism, destruction of equipment, direct threats and the restriction of workers’ freedom constitute unacceptable actions that go beyond any legitimate form of claim”, says the note from the IBL, which has, among its members, the CNT (National Transport Confederation), the ABTP (Brazilian Association of Port Terminals), Aprosoja MT (Association of Soy and Corn Producers of the State of Mato Grosso) and others.

According to the institute, the protesters’ agendas are the exclusive responsibility of the federal government, and are not related to Cargill’s activities.

“In view of the irregular occupation and the risk to the physical integrity of employees, we express our solidarity with Cargill and request the authorities to immediately repossess it (in accordance with the current court decision), guarantee operational security, pacify the environment and conditions for carrying out examinations and investigations that lead to due accountability, in addition to the protection of public and private assets, avoiding the continuation of material and operational damage”, says the note.

The impasse has been worrying the Lula government, which is seeking to act as a mediator. At the beginning of the month, it was until a solution to the issue was found.
