A survey released by Fecomércio SC estimates that this could result in the loss of 27 thousand formal jobs in Santa Catarina in commerce, services and tourism.
According to the entity, which represents these sectors, the impact would result from the increase in the cost of hours worked. The federation estimates an increase of 9.4% in the value of hours worked in commerce and 6.9% in services.
“Many businesses, unfortunately, will no longer be able to absorb this increase in costs. And the consumer needs to know that these additional expenses will be passed on. Everything will become more expensive. Brazil is not yet prepared for such a change to be imposed by legislation”, says Hélio Dagnoni, president of the entity.
According to him, the impact tends to be more severe for small businesses, in which payroll represents a proportionally larger portion of costs. Dagnoni believes that companies would have to hire more employees or resort to paying overtime.
The project is and was also embraced by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB). He has faced resistance, however, from business sectors.
