Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney affirmed his support for attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran. In an official statement, the Canadian leader said that the Islamic Republic of Iran “is the main source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East” and spoke of “preventing the country from obtaining a nuclear weapon”.
The USA and Israel launched a major attack against targets in Iranian territory in the early hours of Saturday, the 28th, and American President Donald Trump called on the Iranian people to “take control of their government”. Shortly afterwards, Iran retaliated with ballistic missiles launched toward Israel and US bases in the Middle East.
In his statement, Carney said Canada is closely monitoring “Iran-related hostilities throughout the Middle East” and advised Canadian citizens in Iran to seek shelter in safe locations.

“Canada’s position remains clear: the Islamic Republic of Iran is the primary source of instability and terror across the Middle East, has one of the worst human rights records in the world, and must never be allowed to obtain or develop nuclear weapons,” he said.
The prime minister said that Canada and its international partners have “called on the Iranian regime to end its nuclear program,” citing a meeting at the 2025 G7 Leaders Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, and sanctions imposed by the UN in September of the same year.
“Despite diplomatic efforts, Iran has not fully dismantled its nuclear program, halted all enrichment activities, nor ended its support for regional terrorist groups by proxy. Canada stands with the Iranian people in their long and courageous struggle against Iran’s oppressive regime,” he continued, in reference to the protests that have raged in the Persian country since January.

“Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from continuing to threaten international peace and security. The Canadian government calls for the protection of all civilians in this conflict. We will take all possible measures to protect our citizens and Canadian diplomatic missions throughout the region,” he concluded.
