Spring is getting closer. Use this instead of buying new outdoor furniture

Instead of replacing worn-out chairs and tables with new models, it is better to give them a second life. Appropriate surface preparation, well-selected products and a bit of work can completely change their appearance.

With the arrival of spring, we do not have to buy new furniture, but renovate our old items. To do this, we need to follow a few simple steps that will soon make them look like new. First, we must thoroughly clean the furniture, because if peeling coatings, grease or algae remain on them, even the best paint will not adhere well to the surface.

Therefore, the first step should be to thoroughly clean the furniture, using water with detergent, a brush, and in the case of heavier dirt, we can use a degreaser. Then we get rid of the loose layers using a scraper and sandpaper to stop the surface from falling apart. Only then we matt the furniture, remove dust and dry it, because the remaining dust after sanding would leave ugly traces after painting.

Then, if it has no adhesion, we apply primer to the cleaned and dried wood. Then we can get started . However, remember to do it on a warm and cloudy day, when there is no rainfall or strong sun.

If you want to renovate wooden garden furniture, you have several options to choose from. If we want the color to be full and the objects to take on a new look, it is worth using paints intended for external use. Most often, acrylic paints for garden furniture are used, which dry quickly and do not have an intense odor.

Another option that takes a little longer to dry but creates a harder coating is alkyd paint. It is a better choice when the furniture is slightly uneven or has discoloration. It is also worth buying products that have UV filters to protect the furniture against strong sunlight.

On the other hand, if we value the natural appearance of wood, we can use oil glazes or varnish stains. This will leave the grain pattern visible and protect the surface.

However, when we are dealing with metal furniture, we must first get rid of the rust so that the paint does not crack and peel off. We clean them to a healthy metal, degrease them and apply an anti-corrosion primer. Only then do we apply the topcoat.

In the case of plastic garden furniture, it is best to use dedicated paints for plastics, polyurethane paints or acrylic external enamels, which ensure durability and resistance to UV rays. The most convenient solution will be spray paints for plastic, which do not require primer, dry quickly and reach hard-to-reach places.
