Germany’s anti-Semitism commissioner warns of growing threat to Jewish life after US and Israeli attacks on Iran. He talks about possible terrorist networks.
After the start of a new war against Iran, there are fears that the escalation will also affect the security situation in Germany. The federal government’s commissioner for anti-Semitism, Felix Klein, warned against such a danger. “After the attack on Iran by the US and Israel, we have to assume an increased threat to Jewish life in Germany,” Klein told the Funke Media Group newspaper. TASR informs about it based on the report of the DPA agency.
He believes that, especially after the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran can be counted on to use its networks in Germany for terrorist attacks against Jewish and Israeli facilities. “We could observe this connection, between the increased tension in the Middle East and the intensification of attacks on Jewish life in Europe, repeatedly in the past,” Klein recalled.
Likewise, the chairman of the Bundestag’s parliamentary control committee for the supervision of the federal intelligence services, Marc Henrichmann, calls for vigilance. “Retaliatory measures, also through Iranian sleeper cells in Europe, cannot be ruled out,” Henrichmann said in an interview with Süddeutschen Zeitung.
At the same time, he pointed out that the Iranian regime has repeatedly shown in the past that it spreads terror beyond its own borders. In this context, he stated that Israeli, Jewish and also American facilities have been the focus of such threats for years. At the same time, the member of the Bundestag underlined that there is no reason to panic in view of the existing security measures.
