“There is currently no impact on the security of EU gas supply.” But prices continue to rise this Thursday.
Experts from the European Union (EU) Gas Coordination Group guaranteed this Wednesday that the supply of gas to the community space “it is stable” and “there is no impact” in the security of such supply, despite tensions in the Middle East.
“The meeting of the EU Gas Coordination Group with EU countries and the International Energy Agency has just ended. It has been confirmed that gas supplies are stable”, wrote the European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy in a post on the social network X.
According to the message, “there is currently no impact on the security of EU gas supply.” Even so, “the Commission continues to monitor the situation”, it is also mentioned.
Price continues to rise
The price of natural gas continued to rise this Wednesday, although at a slower pace than in previous days, recording a 10% increase to 61.30 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh), according to Bloomberg data. On Tuesday, gas had already closed with a significant rise of almost 22%reaching 54.29 euros. On Monday, gas prices skyrocketed 40,81%.
This was a consequence of increased tensions in the Middle East and the suspension of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production by Qatar Energy, Qatar’s state-owned company, due to security concerns following an attack on two of its facilities.
Also this Wednesday, the price of Brent oil rose slightly more than 2% at the opening, accumulating an increase of more than 12% in the last three trading sessions, in the wake of the conflict in the Middle East.
According to Bloomberg data analyzed by the Spanish news agency EFE, at 7:15 am today (6:15 am Lisbon time), Brent oil rose 2.21%, reaching 83.20 dollars per barrel.
On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched an attack against Iran, which responded with attacks in other regions, extending the conflict to the entire Middle East and increasing fears of a blockade in the Strait of Hormuza fundamental waterway for oil and gas traffic.
