Lula again demands action from men against violence against women

“It is unacceptable that men continue to think that they own women”, said the president in an interview this Friday (6th March)

The president (PT) stated that combating violence against women needs to be at the center of public debate and demanded greater responsibility from men to face the problem.

“It is unacceptable that men continue to think that they own women, that they can attack them or do whatever they want with them. Everyone – especially us men – have to do our part so that this culture disappears from our country and becomes a thing of the past”declared in an interview with the newspaper The Day this Friday (March 6, 2026).

The statement was made when commenting on the federal government’s actions to combat feminicide. Lula said that gender violence is an issue that “it’s been moving a lot” with him and that demands cultural change in the country.

The president cited the creation of the Brazil Pact to Combat Femicide, an initiative that brings together the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary Powers to accelerate the granting of protective measures, hold perpetrators accountable and expand the reception network for victims.

The pact was signed by Lula, the president of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), Edson Fachin, the president of the Chamber, (Republicanos-PB), and by the president of the Senate, (União Brasil-AP), on February 4th of this year.

Among the measures announced, Lula highlighted the implementation of “Alerta Mulher Segura”, a system that improves the electronic monitoring of aggressors who wear ankle bracelets and allows cases to be monitored in real time.

The government also plans to expand the service network with new units of the Casa da Mulher Brasileira, in addition to opening reference centers and strengthening specialized police stations for 24-hour operation.

According to the president, the measures aim to ensure a faster response from the State. “With all this, let’s give women the attention and priority they need when they face threats, without wasting time and letting the worst happen”he stated.
