The expectation of hearing from banker Daniel Vorcaro in the Senate this week is likely to frustrate the plans of the Economic Affairs Committee (CAE). Arrested since last week as part of investigations into Banco Master, the businessman is not expected to attend the hearing scheduled for Tuesday (10). The information is from Economic Value.
Before the new arrest, Vorcaro had signaled to the collegiate that he was willing to provide clarifications. According to the president of the commission, senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL), the banker himself had requested the opportunity to speak to parliamentarians.
With preventive detention ordered, however, the possibility of participation lost practical viability.
Even after Vorcaro’s arrest, there was still an expectation in Congress that the testimony could take place. This is because the businessman was transferred to Brasília, which, in theory, could facilitate his presence in the Senate.
The current assessment, however, is that the testimony should not take place while Vorcaro remains in custody in the prison system.
The banker is being investigated in the Banco Master case, which mobilizes financial authorities and investigative bodies and has already become one of the main focuses of political tension in Brasília.
