The Presidency’s Institutional Security Office reported that a member committed suicide at the palace’s service entrance
A soldier from the GSI (Institutional Security Office of the Presidency of the Republic) committed suicide this Tuesday (10 March 2026) at the service entrance of Palácio da Alvorada, the president’s official residence.
The GSI reported the incident and confirmed that an investigation will be launched to determine the circumstances of the incident.
Access for journalists to Palácio da Alvorada was blocked at around 2pm. The official note from Secom (Secretariat of Communication) about the incident was released at 3:10 pm. Here’s the (PDF – 371 KB).
The institution mourned the member’s death and said it is providing support to the soldier’s family.
The GSI reinforced its commitment to keeping all components in a condition to fulfill the mission of protecting presidential dependencies.
The president (PT) had left Palácio do Planalto heading to Palácio da Alvorada to fulfill commitments at 3pm and 4pm. Secom (Communication Secretariat) did not inform whether activities were suspended.
