Distributor Manequim Filmes released the official poster and confirmed the premiere of the film ‘The King of the Internet’ for May 14th in cinemas. Inspired by a true story, the film follows the trajectory of young Brazilian hacker Daniel Nascimento, played by João Guilherme.
Directed by Fabrício Bittar, known for comedies such as ‘How to Hack Your Boss’ and ‘How to Become the Worst Student in School’, the film brings a tone of dramatic adventure to tell how Daniel became one of the most famous hackers in the country while still a teenager. The script was written by the director himself in partnership with Vinícius Perez.
In history, the teenager invades national and international servers and ends up getting involved in a criminal organization which moves millions of reais. Amidst his life of luxury, parties and ostentation, he also becomes the target of the Federal Police’s first major operation against virtual crimes in Brazil, all before turning 17.
In addition to João Guilherme in the main role, the cast includes names known to the public. Marcelo Serrado plays Daniel’s mentor and leader of the gang. Emílio de Mello and Bia Seidl play the young hacker’s parents. Actress Débora Ozório appears as the protagonist’s girlfriend. The team also includes Adriano Garib, Kaik Pereira, Clarissa Muller, André Ramiro and Eri Johnson.
A The plot also brings a touch of nostalgia by portraying a time when computers still used floppy disks and the word “hacker” started to gain popularity. Between chases, motorcycles, cars and parties, the film shows how a teenager’s meteoric rise in the digital world ended up attracting the attention of the authorities.
Distributed by Manequim Filmes, a Vitrine Filmes label, the film is a co-production with Telecine and Clube Filmes. The production proposes to reflect on how far a young person can go when they have access to a lot of money, power and technology, but little judgment.
