US President Donald Trump has appointed Erika Kirk, the widow of murdered conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, to the US Air Force Academy’s advisory board. American media reported on Wednesday. TASR writes about it according to an AFP report.

The Board of Visitors provides advice and recommendations to the President and Secretary of Defense regarding the operation of the Air Force Academy. The body, to which Kirk himself was appointed by Trump, paid tribute to him at its last meeting in December. “The board remembers Charlie’s dedication to advancing the Air Force Academy and inspiring the next generation of Soldiers,” the board said.

Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the highest US civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, calling him a “martyr” who fought for truth and freedom. The award, which the White House had planned to present on Kirk’s late 32nd birthday, was accepted by his wife.

Kirk was the director and co-founder of a conservative youth organization called Turning Point USA and a prominent Trump ally and supporter. He was shot last September 10 during a speech on a university campus in the state of Utah.
