Three arrested for a homophobic attack in Pontevedra | News from Galicia

The National Police have arrested three people that occurred last Sunday morning in the center of Pontevedra. The attacked young man, who suffered a broken nose, was with a friend in front of a bar in the old part of the city shortly before nine in the morning when some kids in their 20s began hurling homophobic insults at them. According to his complaint, the attackers chased him and beat him until he fell to the ground.

The deputy delegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, announced this Thursday that the alleged perpetrator of the attack and two other people who allegedly collaborated “to varying degrees” in the attack have been arrested. The three detainees will be brought to justice this Thursday. Losada has asked that “the full weight of the law” fall on those responsible and has labeled hatred as a “very serious problem in our society.” Homophobic violence, he added, is “intolerable, stale, crass and condemnable.”

The victim told Pontevedra newspaper that he did not know his attackers at all. At the door of afterlocated next to the city’s Main Theater, they began to tell him and a friend “get out of here, faggots, what are you doing here, why the hell are you coming?” His companion recorded part of the attack with his mobile phone.
