A police chase on Friday morning ended with a police officer injured and two suspects arrested after an escape on the 25 de Abril Bridge. The moment of the interception was filmed by witnesses who witnessed the incident.
It all started around 7:52 am, during a Civil Police inspection operation in the Praça do Pedágio region. The agents were carrying out a selective vehicle stop when they stopped a suspicious car. However, the driver did not comply with the order and immediately fled.
The situation gave rise to a chase that continued towards the bridge deck, in the south-north direction, from Almada to Lisbon. During the escape, the car ended up hitting a car that was traveling on the road and also hit a PSP motorcycle.
With the impact, an agent fell and was injured. He was treated at the scene and later taken to São Francisco Xavier Hospital for medical treatment.
Inside the car were two men, aged 26 and 46. According to the information released, the driver did not have a driving license.
The incident caused severe constraints on circulation. Traffic on the bridge was interrupted and only resumed around 9:00 am, with traffic restrictions still in place.
The Almada Firefighters were also mobilized to the site to support relief operations.
Authorities are now investigating the circumstances of the escape and the reasons why the suspects did not comply with the stop order.
