Ministry award will give R$7.5 million to outskirts – 03/13/2026 – Panel

Representatives from 350 favelas and urban communities will meet on March 21 in São Paulo to receive an award from the Ministry of Cities, which will distribute R$7.5 million for popular initiatives.

The Periferia Viva 2025 Award was created by. 58 projects from the Southeast, 54 from the Northeast, 21 from the North, 10 from the South and 7 from the Central-West will be awarded. There will also be R$750,000 for 30 technical advisors.

The event will be at Casa de Portugal, in the capital of São Paulo. Responsible for the area, the ministry’s Secretary of Peripheries, Guilherme Simões, says that the award “reaffirms the government’s commitment to recognizing and strengthening those who transform the country from the peripheries”.

The award was created in 2023, and the theme of this edition is “Living Periphery is Collective Construction”. In these three years, around 400 initiatives were awarded, with the allocation of R$19 million in financial incentives.
