The United States embassy in Iraq issued an alert this Saturday, the 14th, for its citizens to leave the country immediately. The warning came after a missile attack hit the embassy building yesterday.
“Iran-aligned terrorist militias have encouraged and carried out indiscriminate attacks against US citizens and targets throughout Iraq. American citizens must leave the country now,” the agency said in a statement.
The embassy further reinforced that Americans should not seek help at the embassy in Baghdad or the consulate general in Erbil “due to the continued risk of missiles, drones and rockets in Iraqi airspace.”

“Do not travel to Iraq due to terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict, civil unrest, and the U.S. government’s limited ability to provide emergency services to citizens in Iraq. Do not travel to Iraq for any reason. Leave now if you are there,” the U.S. government states in the alert.
Airspace is closed, and commercial flights are not operating out of Baghdad. According to the document, there are open land routes to Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
