Hugo Souza is called up by Ancelotti to replace Alisson in the national team

Corinthians goalkeeper Hugo Souza was called upthis Friday (20), by the Brazilian national team coach, Carlo Ancelotti, to replace Alissonfrom Liverpool, injured. He will be part of the group that will face Francenext Thursday (26), and the Croatiaon the 31st. The games will take place in Boston and Orlando, in the United States, respectively.

Hugo joins the goalkeepers Bentoof Al-Nassr, and Edersonfrom Fenerbahçe, who had been called up by Ancelotti in (15). In a press conference after the call, the Italian said that the position is not 100% closed for the World Cup.

“There is no 100% closed position. As I said, evolution is continuous in each game for each athlete. But we think that Alisson, Bento and Ederson are the best at this moment”, he explained.

Convocation

On Monday, Carlo Ancelotti made the team’s last squad list before the players for the 2026 World Cup are defined.

Italian already has 18 of the 26 names defined and treats the games against France and Croatia as tests for choosing the other eight. Without Neymar, the coach will promote the debuts of Rayan and Igor Thiagoin addition to the return of Endrick.

The coach emphasized that he only called players who are 100% physicallyciting the absences of Eder Militão, Bruno Guimarães, Estêvão and Rodrygo, the latter should be out of the World Cup, due to the severity of his injury.

There is still news. Gabriel Sara, Danilo, Rayan and Igor Thiago were called up for the first time. Ibañez and midfielder Danilo had not yet been called up by Ancelotti, despite already having experience with the national team.

On May 11th, 55 players will be registered for the World Cup squad. The final list, with 26 athletes, will be released on May 18. Afterwards, Brazil will still face Panama, at Maracanã, on May 31st, and Egypt, on June 6th, in the United States, in Cleveland.
