Lula targets Bolsonaro and says that those who encourage weapons should not be elected

Petista stated that the country cannot repeat past mistakes and criticized anyone who “makes fun of someone who was dying from lack of air”

With the October elections on the horizon, the president (PT) used an event in Minas Gerais this Friday (20th March 2026) to give a message to the electorate: Brazil cannot go back to being governed by those who mocked the sick, encouraged weapons and disdained vaccines.

Without mentioning the name of (PL), Lula said: “We can never run the risk of electing a person who says that taking a vaccine will make you gay, who mocks someone who was dying from lack of air, who says that a vaccine makes you turn into an alligator and who, instead of encouraging the purchase of books, encourages the purchase of weapons”.

The statement was made this Friday (20th March 2026), during the delivery of the bus for the Caminho da Escola Program, in Sete Lagoas (MG).

“You will elect someone who will take charge of this country for four years. If you choose well, wonderful. If you choose wrong, you know what it will be like”these.

The references refer to episodes starring Bolsonaro and his administration:

  • In 2022, a video went viral in which Bolsonaro At the time, the then president the recommendation by former Minister of Health Henrique Mandetta that Brazilians seek medical help only in cases of shortness of breath;

Lula also called on men to combat gender-based violence. Since the beginning of the year, the president has been making nods to the female audience, the electorate in which he performs best.

In February, he launched the Brazilian National Pact to Combat Feminicide, signed by the Three Powers. In March, it went on national television for Women’s Day .

In an agenda before the event in Sete Lagoas, Lula criticized content circulating on social media teaching how to react when a woman says no – and called for more regulation of digital platforms.

“We have to be tough, because if we don’t take care, we don’t know what kind of human being we will have in the coming years”these.

As the government evaluates new decrees to regulate big techs and expand protection, including for women, in the digital environment.

THE EVENT

Lula announced the delivery of 324 school buses from the Caminho da Escola Program during a visit to the Iveco factory in Sete Lagoas (MG). The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, accompanied the president at the event.

The ceremony at the Iveco manufacturing unit includes the delivery of 158 vehicles from the program. The vehicles are intended for basic education students, especially those from rural, riverside and difficult-to-access areas. The objective is to expand access to school with more safety and comfort.

The delivery marks the beginning of the distribution of 1,000 buses in the second stage of the New PAC (Growth Acceleration Program) Seleções. The total investment reaches around R$500 million. From this initial delivery, the distribution of the remaining vehicles that make up the total of 1,000 buses will continue, benefiting students in different regions of the country.
