Several artists came together to pay homage to the life and work of Florbela Espanca. The album was released this Friday and features 14 songs that recreate 14 of the poet’s sonnets, all performed by different Portuguese artists or musical groups.
Almost 96 years after he died, Florbela Espanca is honored by Portuguese artists.
“Florbela” has 14 themes performed by João Só, Cláudia Pascoal, Iolanda, Napa, Os Quatro e Meia, Carolina de Deus, Luís Trigacheiro, DAMA, Ana Mariano, Edmundo Inácio, Jorge Pitacas and Mariza Liz, Joana Espadinha, Manuel Guerra and Mimi Froes.
The album has artistic direction by João Só who speaks, in statements to the Lusa agency, on themes “united by the lyric, the lyrics, the type of poems”. It also guarantees that it was “It’s a great challenge to create songs based on sonnets by Florbela Espanca because the sonnet’s goal is difficult; the structure for a sonnet’s song is difficult.”
Difficult or not, the result is already on the street and ready to be heard by everyone. “Vaidade” by Iolanda opens the tribute album. Next comes “The Greatest Good”, “Perdidamente”, “Amor que Morre”, “Vain Wishes”, “My Wish”, “Só”, “Friend”, “Our House”, “Tarde Demais”, “Lost Soul”, “Fanatism” and “Noite de Saudade”. It ends with the song “A Vida” by Jorge Pitacas and Marisa Liz.
“Florbela” was released this Friday, precisely one day before World Poetry Day. It is available on digital platforms and also on CD and Vinyl.
