Attacker acquires 16th century work, the most expensive in Norway, and allocates it to the public library in Bryne
Manchester City’s Norwegian striker Erling Haaland bought the most expensive book in the country’s history. For 1.3 million Norwegian kroner (R$705,380), he acquired, together with his father, a 1594 edition of the “sagas of the kings”, by Snorri Sturluson, according to the news agency NTB.
He, however, does not intend to keep the copy. “I was never a big reader”Haaland stated in a press release. The player decided to donate the book permanently to the library in the town of Bryne, where he grew up.
The Manchester City star made just one demand: that the book always remain on display and open to the public. “I want the book to always be open, so that you can read about those who are from my land, from Bryne and from Jæren”he stated, according to the city hall.
Haaland said that it is easier to spark interest in reading when people identify with the characters described. “I live my dream, but it is reserved for a few. I have seen how books allow many people to dream and make their dreams come true.”
The work will be used next school year in a reading competition in schools in the municipality. The prize will be a visit to the Ullevaal stadium in Oslo to watch a game with Haaland and the Norwegian national team.
