Meeting with truck drivers in Planalto reduces pressure for strike

Government and category advanced in the freight MP and dialogue table, but the scenario of future strike remained undefined

A 1st round of negotiations between the federal government and representatives of the road transport sector, held this Wednesday (25th March 2026), at Palácio do Planalto, ended without announcing a strike and focusing on consolidating the MP (provisional measure) that establishes the minimum freight floor. The minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, (Psol), stated that the category’s demands were met in the text and that the priority now is to avoid changes in Congress.

The meeting was attended by truck driver leaders and technical representatives from the government. It was not clear, however, whether a strike could occur in the future. A movement already because of the MP.

As a guide, a dialogue table was created to monitor the progress of the measure. The groups should meet again this Wednesday (25th March).

They decided not to strike because they were supported by a provisional measure from the government. There were groups that bet on chaos to carry out electoral politicking. And the truck drivers’ organizations had the responsibility to look out for the workers and not make politics on one side or the other.”, said the minister after the meeting.

Boulos also stated that there is a risk of changes in Congress during the MP’s processing and reinforced the Executive’s commitment to the original text: “Our commitment is to defend the text of the MP in Congress, without setbacks”.

The government stated that it will intensify inspection actions by the ANP (National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels), the Federal Police, Senacon (National Consumer Secretariat) and Procons throughout the country. The minister also said that “truck drivers cannot pay the price of the irresponsibility and greed of these distributors”, citing pressures in the diesel market.

The regulation of the sector was also detailed by ANTT (National Land Transport Agency), which provides for greater electronic inspection and data crossing to verify compliance with the minimum. According to the agency, companies that fail to comply with the table may suffer precautionary suspension and even lose their registration in the event of a repeat offense.

Representatives of the truck drivers stated that there will be no strike at this time, but said that the mobilization will be political in Congress. “When there is dialogue and the category is met, there is no strike. Strikes occur when there are losses, not when there are gains. We won a battle; the dispute is now in the National Congress”, he stated Luciano Santosunion president in Santos. One .
