In the summer heat, most people decide how to cool the air at home at least a little. Air conditioning is not always at hand and humidifiers tend to be expensive and more demanding to maintain. At the same time, there is a simple helper that can handle both in a natural way.
When tropical temperatures prevail outside, the air in apartments and houses is often dry and unpleasant. Many therefore purchase air humidifiers or look for ways to create a more pleasant environment at home. However, there is a much simpler solution. One of the plants that can naturally increase the humidity of the air is schachor. It loves water, grows quickly and helps to create a fresher microclimate at home during the summer.

A plant that loves water
Šáchor comes from areas where lakes and wetlands. Unlike most indoor plants, it doesn’t mind if its roots are still wet. It is even recommended to grow it in a pot placed in a bowl of water.
Thanks to the large amount of water that the leaves continually absorb and evaporate, it helps to naturally increase the humidity of the surrounding air.

On hot days, the air in the interior is often dried by the sun or air conditioning. Šáchor continuously evaporates water and creates a more pleasant microclimate around it.
With proper care, it creates a dense clump of fine green stems topped with tufts of leaves, which have a decorative effect and at the same time fulfill a practical function.
How to grow shachor
It does best in a bright location without prolonged direct midday sun. It needs a constantly moist substrate and regular replenishment of water in the bowl under the flower pot.
During the growing season, it appreciates occasional fertilizing and higher air humidity, which, thanks to its ability to evaporate water, it partly creates itself.
“Sáchor is very easy to reproduce. You just need to cut off the leaf plume, turn it upside down and put it in a glass of water. Within a few weeks, it will grow new roots and young plants, which you can then transplant into a flowerpot. It is one of the easiest ways to propagate houseplants,” says gardener Jaroslava Rubešková.
It fits in every apartment
Sáchor can be grown in the living room, bedroom and conservatory. Thanks to its airy appearance, it also fits well into modern interiors.
With enough water, it grows relatively quickly and over time will create a distinct green dominant.
