Dozens of mayors from affiliated cities rehearse a party disband as a reaction to the senator’s affiliation. The former judge is and, without space in the Progressive Union Federation, migrated to the PL at the invitation of the senator and presidential candidate.
The dissent was, who left the presidency of the state PL shortly after the arrival of the former judge. He defends support for the candidate who will be chosen by the governor’s group (PSD).
This Thursday (26), Giacobo met with the party’s mayors at a hotel in Curitiba and received support from local administrators. According to the parliamentarian’s calculations, at least 48 of the 53 PL mayors were at the meeting and confirmed their adherence to the disaffiliation movement. On the list, there are mayors from cities such as Cascavel, Araucária and Pato Branco.
The president of AMP (Association of Municipalities of Paraná) and mayor of Assis Chateaubriand, Marcel Micheletto, also left the PL and spoke at the meeting in defense of “continuity in state government”. “No one will let go of the greatest governor in history, who has been a municipalist governor. We will not be ungrateful,” Micheletto told the mayors.
Giacobo recalls that, at the beginning of 2025, there was an agreement between the parties in the state so that there would be an alliance in the 2026 election. “This agreement was even endorsed by former president Bolsonaro. The moment they joined Moro, this agreement was broken. I am a man of my word. I cannot agree with that”, Giacobo told Sheet.
The deputy also directly criticizes the former judge. “And I will never stand on the platform of a citizen who, when he left the Ministry of Justice, said that he was going to overthrow President Bolsonaro, that he was going to arrest him, because he was a corrupt thief”, he stated.
When contacted by the report, the new president of the PL of Paraná, federal deputy Filipe Barros, said in a statement that he and Moro will open dialogue with all the party’s mayors, vice-presidents and parliamentarians “with great responsibility and respect”.
After the 2024 elections, the PL became one of the parties with the most mayors among the 399 municipalities in Paraná, second only to the PSD (164 mayors) and the PP (61 mayors).
According to Giacobo, dissident mayors should migrate to the PSD or to parties that will be in the governor’s party coalition.
Meanwhile, the PSD remains without a definition of the name of the party that will go to the polls. Ratinho Junior internally defended his Secretary of Cities, Guto Silva (PSD), but his performance in voting intention polls did not convince the group.
State deputy Alexandre Curi (PSD), president of the Legislative Assembly, wants to be a candidate, but is still seeking the governor’s support. Curi is considering changing the party to the Republicans if he doesn’t find space.
The former mayor of Curitiba Rafael Greca has already made a similar move. Without the governor’s support to be the PSD candidate, .
Given the uncertainty, even the name of the mayor of Curitiba, Eduardo Pimentel (PSD), who has been in office for just over a year, also began to be mentioned.
In the opposition camp, there is already a defined name. State deputy Requião Filho, from PDT, will enter the dispute for Palácio Iguaçu in an alliance with PT.
