“We will only calm down when the price of diesel oil does not rise, because the war belongs to Trump, the war does not belong to the Brazilian people and we do not have to be victims of this war”, he said.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva once again criticized this Tuesday (31) the war in Iran and the effects on the international price of oilwhich has made fuel more expensive, especially diesel oil, in the Brazilian case. THE country imports around 30% of what it consumes on the domestic market.

According to Lula, the government is taking possible and will take all measures to avoid an escalation in the price of dieselwhich directly impacts inflation.

“We take all possible measures to prevent the increase in diesel oil. But, in the last government, they sold the distributor [BR Distribuidora, ex-subsidiária da Petrobras]. So, when we don’t raise the price, even if Petrobras lowers the price, it doesn’t reach the end, because the middlemen don’t let us”, stated the president, in São Paulo, during an event that celebrated the 21st anniversary of the University for All Program (Prouni) and the 14th anniversary of the implementation of the Racial Quota Law.

Lula highlighted that the government relies on oversight from bodies such as the Federal Police and the Public Ministry.

“We will only calm down when the price of diesel oil does not rise, because the war belongs to Trump, the war does not belong to the Brazilian people and we don’t have to be victims of this war”, he said.

To an audience made up of hundreds of students, Lula cited the troubled geopolitical scenario and called to account the leaders of the five largest military powers on the planet: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Russia, which are the permanent members of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN).

“You see the blockade of Cuba, what they did in Venezuela, what they did in Iran. And now, what is happening with the war in Iran? The price of fuel is rising, and the price of fuel rising will reach lettuce, it will reach beans, it will reach rice, it will reach everything we buy. So, we need to give a message to these five gentlemen members [permanentes] of the UN Security Council: come to your senses. The world needs peace, the world does not need war”, he warned.

“When the UN was created in 1945, the Security Council and the permanent members, which are these five countries, were created to maintain peace in the world, but they are waging war”, emphasized Lula.

discount non diesel

The expectation is that the government will publish, later this week, a provisional measure (MP) that creates a subsidy for imported diesel, with a discount of R$ 1.20 per liter. The information was confirmed this Tuesday (31) by minister Dario Durigan, who stated that the government is trying to guarantee the adhesion of all states before publication.

The proposal provides that the total cost of R$3 billionover two months, is divided equally between the Union and the states. Each entity – Union and state – would bear R$0.60 per subsidized liter.

The initiative aims to contain the rise in fuel prices and avoid the risk of shortages, given the gap between domestic prices and the international market.

A month of war

Com combined attacks by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory occurred at the end of February, The war completed a month this weekstill without a concrete prospect of an agreement that would put an end to the conflict.

The price of a barrel of oil has already increased by around 50% since then, and reports already point to environmental and climate risks associated with the conflict, which takes place in the Middle East region, where some of the main oil producing countries are concentrated, including Iran itself, which is under threat of a land invasion by US troops.
