Brazilians lead the ranking of tourists barred from Portugal

There were 749 refusals among the 2,140 foreigners who passed through the country’s airports; Angolans appear in 2nd place

Brazilians led the ranking of most blocked tourists when arriving at airports in Portugal in 2025. Of the 2,140 who were unable to enter the country last year, 749 were from Brazil. Next, the Angolans appear (396).

Despite leading the ranking, the number of Brazilians prevented from entering Portugal fell by 50% compared to 2024. 2 years ago, they were 1,470 were blocked at Portuguese airports, an increase of 721% compared to 2023, when there were 179.

According to the report, the main reasons for refusal of entry are:

  • lack of documentation proving the destination in Portugal;
  • means of subsistence in Portuguese territory;
  • absence of a valid visa or residence permit.

In 2025, the total number of foreigners barred in Portugal grew 23% compared to 2024. It went from 1,700 to 2,100.

Immigration was one of the main themes of Portugal’s presidential elections in February. center-left candidate, president when he wins (Enough, right) in the 2nd round of the election. The tightening of immigration laws was one of the agendas defended by the right-wing candidate.
