The former senator made official this Saturday (4) her affiliation with the (Workers’ Party) in Tocantins.
Linked to the ruralists, she was once a minister in the government (PT) and disagreed with her own party at the time, the MDB, to support her during the impeachment process that placed (MDB) in charge of the Palácio do Planalto.
His relationship with the PT, however, was not always friendly. She has been critical of (PT) in the past, but supported the president in the 2022 presidential elections and will now work for his re-election.
“[Quero] Thank President Lula, who also reinforces this invitation for me to join the PT of Tocantins”, said the former senator in a video published on social media. “We will be together in this fight for democracy, for the re-election of President Lula.”
Kátia Abreu began her political career in the former PFL, an acronym for which she served as federal deputy from 2000. In 2006, she was elected senator for the DEM. Both parties were absorbed by the current União Brasil.
Then, in 2015, he began a second term in the Senate, which ended after the 2022 elections.
She also had stints with the PSD and the MDB. In 2018, he joined the PDT to run for vice-president on Ciro Gomes’ ticket — they came in third place, behind Fernando Haddad (PT) and Jair Bolsonaro (PL), the latter elected in the second round.
In 2020, Kátia Abreu joined the PP, an acronym in which she remained until 2024, according to Electoral Court records.
