Premier League: Sunderland denounces racism against player and demands punishment

O Sunderland condemned the alleged racist attack suffered by the attacker Brian Brobbey on social media after the 1-0 victory over Tottenhamon Sunday (12), in the Premier League.

Brobbey was at the center of a decisive play in the match, when the captain, Cristian Romero, collided with his own goalkeeper, Antonín Kinský, while trying to clear the ball under pressure from the Sunderland striker.

Romero left the field crying after the collision, while Kinský managed to remain on the field until the end of the match, even with his head heavily bandaged.

“We stand firmly behind Brian and offer him our full and unconditional support,” Sunderland said in an official statement.

The club added that the case is not isolatedrevealing that Romaine Mundle and Lutsharel Geertruida were also target of similar attacks in recent weeks.

“The club reported the incident to , the social media platforms involved and the police, and we hope that swift action will be taken against those responsible”, completed the note.

With the result, Sunderland moved up to 10th place in the table and will face Aston Villa, fourth place, next Sunday (19).
