Flávio criticizes Lula with images recorded during his father’s administration; government officials react

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, used images from the government of his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), to criticize the Lula government in his X profile this Sunday (12). The publication caused a reaction from members of the government.

In the video, Flávio mentions the families’ debt and defines the situation as a “serious crisis”. “This means eating less, it means an empty pan. And almost 20% of these Brazilians are not even able to pay their water bill”, he states, while the background image shows scenes from 2021, in which people collect food from a garbage truck in Fortaleza (CE). At the time, amid the covid-19 pandemic, the material was published by the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo in a report on the spread of hunger in the country.

In reaction to the content, the Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Guilherme Boulos, stated that the images correspond to the period of Jair Bolsonaro’s administration. “So, Flávio Bolsonaro, are you going to recant?” he asked on X. The video is still published on the senator’s profile.

The former minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations and pre-candidate for the Senate from Paraná, Gleisi Hoffmann (PT-PR), called Flávio Bolsonaro’s publication a “micão”. “Bone row? Only if it’s in the Bolsonaro government. Who needs an enemy with a son like that, huh?”, he wrote on Instagram.

In June 2022, data from the 2nd National Survey on Food Insecurity in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic showed that more than 33 million people did not have anything to eat in the country during the pandemic period, levels last recorded in the 1990s. In 2025, Brazil once again left the UN Hunger Map, although around 7 million still face severe food insecurity.

According to a Datafolha survey released this Saturday, 11th, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva appears technically tied with Flávio Bolsonaro. For the first time, the opponent numerically surpasses the PT member.

In a possible second round dispute, Flávio would have 46% of voting intentions, compared to 45% for Lula. The difference, however, is within the margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points, which constitutes a technical tie.
